Barrera was 15 years old when he defeated David Felix by a knockout in round two on November 22, 1989. The victory marked the beginning of a 43 fight win streak.

In 1990, Barrera had seven fights, including his first rise in quality opposition, when he defeated veteran Iván Salazar, by a decision in eight rounds. In 1991, he had seven more fights, defeating boxers Abel Hinojosa, Javier Díaz and others.

Barrera began 1992 by winning his first professional title, defeating Justino Suárez by a decision in twelve rounds to win the Mexican national Super Flyweight championship. He retained the title three times before the end of the year which helped improved his ranking in the Super Flyweight division. Born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., in 1942 (named after both his father and the famous Kentucky abolitionist), the gregarious, handsome, and extraordinarily gifted boxer garnered world attention by winning a gold medal in the 1960 Olympics. He further stunned the sports world by beating the heavily favored Sonny Liston to win the heavyweight title in 1964, and shocked white America by announcing right after that fight that he had joined the militant, antiwhite Nation of Islam, the Black Muslims, whose most well-known figure was the fiery orator Malcolm X. He also announced that he was changing his name to Muhammad Ali. When he opposed being drafted during the Vietnam War on religious grounds and was subsequently convicted of violating the Selective Service Act in 1967, he was denied a license to fight anywhere in the United States. He was, at this time, among white America, probably the most hated black public figure since heavyweight boxing champion Jack Johnson. After an exile of three and a half years, Ali returned triumphantly to boxing in 1970, even though he lost his title to Joe Frazier in 1971. He eventually won back his title in 1974, and after losing it once in 1978 regained it again later that year.

Rafael Nadal was 19 years and two days old when he won the 2005 French Open in his very first appearance at the event. A left-hander with a booming forehand, Nadal had been known as a clay-court specialist since playing his first pro tournaments in 2001. His aggressive style, flowing hair and muscular build have made him a consistent favorite with female fans as well. He won his first singles title in 2004, and had a breakout season in 2005, winning at Monte Carlo, Rome, Barcelona and Stuttgart as well as at Roland Garros. He won the French Open again in 2006, 2007 and 2008, defeating Roger Federer in the final each time. In 2008 he broke through at Wimbledon, beating Federer to win the men’s singles title there.

He has helped China win three consecutive Thomas Cup (men’s world team) championships in 2004, 2006, and 2008. Lin also won the 2007 World Badminton Championships in men’s singles, defeating Sony Dwi Kuncoroo of Indonesia in the final to become only the 2nd player after Yang Yang to win the men’s singles championship back to back, after taking the gold medal in the 2006 World Badminton Championships.

He played for Chinese team in Sudirman Cup 2005 and 2007 as his team won.

Lin won his first ever Olympic singles gold medal on 17 August 2008 at the Beijing Summer Olympics after defeating Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in straight sets 21-12, 21-8.
